Well now, are you looking for something to do on Tuesday August 10th from 4pm to 7pm? Are you willing to have fun? Can you bring your whole family? Can you bring your whole neighborhood? Can you spare some time to pack 250 back packs for homeless youth? Can you volunteer? Can you sign up online? Can you sponsor?
If you answered YES to the above questions, then we have just the best thing in the world to head over to! FAMILY FUN NIGHT @ THE HISTORIC FURBER FARM
The Myers - Thrivent Community is partnering with the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce to bring this family friendly event benefitting area homeless teens. Our Chamber & Community Members are invited to join us at the Historic John P. Furber Farm in Old Cottage Grove for an evening of fun and food at this Family Fun @ Furber Farm Event.
A strolling magician, live DJ, a Balloon Artist, large petting zoo, dunk tank, RE/MAX Professionals hot air balloon basket and a marketplace will be event features, providing a fun evening of entertainment. The first 250 families will receive a gift bag filled with fun items from local businesses.
The Cottage Grove Lions will be grilling up Hot Dogs, donated by Hy-Vee of Cottage Grove. Mik Mart and Culver’s of Cottage Grove will be on-site providing ice cream and custard treats.
Basic Needs Thrift Shop, Youth Service Bureau and Friends in Need Food Shelf have identified a number of items our at-risk youth are in need of this fall. Items of greatest need are travel sized hygiene items, feminine care products, gift cards for gas and food and toilet paper. Small first-aid kits and cold care items are also needed. Donations will be collected on-site at the event and at the Thrivent Community Room (8750 90th St. S., Cottage Grove) between the hours of 8-4 pm, Monday-Friday till 8/9/2021. Attendees will be invited to create a backpack of items in our event assembly line. The event goal is to fill 250 backpacks to give back to area homeless youth.
Whether you like to believe it or not, homelessness exists in our community. And we believe that those experiencing homelessness deserve access to services to assist them in becoming stable. 9 % of area youth ages 17 to 24 will experience a period of homelessness. Teenagers who are homeless often ran away from bad home situations or have aged out of foster care. Therefore, many of these young people are left without resources. Homelessness itself creates many barriers, but for teenagers it can be even worse.
Thanks to our Chamber members for sponsorships and donations. This truly is a community effort, for the good of our communities’ youth.
